Defect, also known as a "bug", stands for a spotted error, which was found and registered either by quality assurance activities or due to use of the software system by the customer. Defect does not necessary imply harmful system interference and in certain circumstances will not be eliminated. In some organizations, defect stands for errors spotted by customers after product release, while the term bug stands for internal registration of such incident.
